How We Work
The Broadway Green Alliance operates as a League Ad Hoc Committee (co-chaired by Charlie Deull of Clark Transfer and Susan Sampliner of “Wicked”), with five committees covering key aspects of the initiative:

PRE-PRODUCTION/POST-PRODUCTION: headed by Bob Usdin of Showman Fabricators, dealing with greener building and disposal of physical productions. This subcommittee is assembling lists of greener resources for shops and designers, and helped shows that closed in January reuse or recycle 94% of the set materials.

PRODUCTION: headed by stage manager Andrea "Spook" Testani, dealing with practices of running shows, starting from rehearsal and going through their run. This subcommittee has started a bi-monthly publication called The Green Sheet, featuring efforts going on in different phases of production and by different departments in every issue; members are currently surveying stage managers of running shows to establish baselines on use.

VENUES: headed by Jennifer Hershey of Jujamcyn, dealing with all aspects of running greener theatres. Participants, including the Jujamcyn, Nederlander and Shubert organizations, are converting all exterior theatre lights to CFL’s and LED’s and revamping their recycling procedures.

EDUCATION AND OUTREACH: headed by Seth Greenleaf of "9 to 5", dealing with getting the word out to our audiences, as well as partnering with other members of the entertainment industry beyond Broadway.

TOURING: headed by Kirk Wingerson of Broadway Across America, dealing with national tours and theatres throughout the country (just starting).
